Books and Literature

The Library’s Online Databases are a collection of subscription databases provided by the Pickens County Library System and the State Library’s Discus Project. You can access the databases for free from the Library or from home. To utilize any of these services, you simply need to provide your library card number and PIN.

Bloom’s Literature provides access to thousands of scholarly essays on different authors and works of literature. It includes biographies of famous authors as well as synopses of famous works of literature.  It also includes access to: Writers Reference Center, a toolbox for writers and researchers, The World Almanac for Kids, a reference resource for intermediate-level students, and The World Almanac for Kids Elementary, a reference resource for elementary grades. Literary Reference Center is a rich full-text literary database covering all genres and timeframes. It includes thousands of synopses, critical essays, book reviews, literary journals and author biographies, plus full-text classic novels, short stories and poems. Product of EBSCO, Novelist provides information on published books, including reading suggestions and read-alikes. An excellent resource for finding new books to read. NoveList Plus K-8 focuses specifically on titles for younger readers.This database provided by State Library.

TeenBookCloud is an online database of eBooks and educator resources perfect for middle schoolers or high schoolers. It offers a robust selection of Graphic Novels, Enhanced Novels, eBooks, classic literature, National Geographic videos, educator resources, and audiobooks. This database provided by State Library.

Writer’s Reference Center explores the fundamentals of writing.  It provides tools for middle school students through adults on how to write and research effectively.  This database provided by State Library.
