The Pickens County Library System system will be going FINE FREE on most materials on September 1, 2021. Certain specialty items such as Adventure Passes and “Library of Things” items will continue to accrue fines. This change is a part of an institutional movement from libraries nationwide, guided by the recommendations of the American Library Association, in an effort to increase free public access to library services. By eliminating most fines, the library is removing barriers and making access easy, equitable and enjoyable for everyone.
Going fine free doesn’t mean that you don’t have to bring your books back to the library. Items will still have a due date and materials will still need to be returned. If an item is not returned, or is returned damaged, patrons will still be charged for lost or damaged items. We trust that our library patrons understand that others may be waiting for materials and that they will be considerate of others by returning or renewing materials in a timely manner.
As a way to welcome everyone back to the library, all overdue fines currently charged will be waived on September 1st. All other fee types will remain on patron accounts – lost or damaged replacement charges, charges for print/copy/fax or other miscellaneous items purchased.
