Archivist in a Backpack Kits
These archival kits were made available though a grant from the SC State Library. They are to be used for oral history interviews as well as for the preservation of historical documents and pictures.
A one-on-one appointment for an overview of the Archivist in a Backpack Kits is required to borrow kits. You will need to sign an equipment check-out agreement at this time. The sessions are for adults, are 45 minutes and are scheduled Monday-Friday. Appointments must be scheduled two business days prior to borrowing kit/kits. Click below to schedule an appointment.
Library of Things items are only available to Adult (18+) borrowers that reside in Pickens County and are in good standing.

- Good standing means the borrower has fines of $5.00 or less. Those on payment plans are not considered to be in good standing.
- Reciprocal and Out-of-County borrowers do not have access to these items.
- Patrons must have their card for 30 days before they can check out these items.
The archival kits have a loan period of 28 days and have the option of one renewal

- Late fees are $3.00 per day and have a maximum fine per item.
- Replacement costs may vary.
- Items cannot be placed on hold.
- Patrons may check out up to 2 kits at a time (1 Oral & 1 Digital).
- Kits must be returned with all its contents at the same time.
- Kits should not be placed in book drops.
- When items are returned, they will need to be on the shelf for 24 hours before they can be checked back out (items cannot be turned in and checked right back out to the same household).
Normal checkout and check in procedures apply.
